Rose Diamond Free Crochet Pattern

This pretty diamond can be used as part of any larger project, or as a complete item on it's own - I've used mine as a standalone Floral Wall decoration because it's just ideal for decorating hallways or feature walls.

This design could also be incorporated into a diamond repeat joined with ‘bridging’ trebles or double crochet to make a long strip of diamonds for a longer wall hanging - it's entirely up to you!

And don't worry - if you prefer to work from a chart, I've included a handy diagram for you to follow, just scroll right through to the end of this post and enjoy!

Here's what you'll need to get started...

[UK Terminology used]

Hook:

Hook: 3.5mm

Yarn:

I used the lovely Stylecraft Batik DK range - you can pick any DK contrasting yarn that you like but the colours I chose are here:

Tension:

in tr: 22 sts x 11 rows for 10cm x 10cm [4” x4”]

Stitches and abbreviations:

ch chain

dc double crochet

dc2tog – double crochet across next 2 sts

htr half treble

sl st slip stitch

st(s) stitch(es)

tr treble

tr2tog – treble crochet across next 2 sts

You'll also need to use a couple of special stitches to create your rose and leaves - when you see 'flower stitch' or 'leaf stitch' in the written pattern, refer back to this 'special stitch guidance':

Special Stitches:

Leaf Stitch (see leaf stitch diagram):

Starting with the left side leaf:

Row 1 Ch4, dc into indicated stich 3 rows down.

Row 2 Around ch4 of row 1, dc, htr, 2tr, htr, dc.

Repeat rows 1 and 2 for right side leaf.

Flower Stitch (see flower stitch diagram):

Row 1 Ch9

Row 2 3tr in 4th ch from hook, 3tr in next 4 ch, ch3, ss into last ch.

Twist flower strip into coil, insert hook through all layers of coil, yrh, pull through flower and loop on hook (ss) to hold flower together.

Here's the key to the symbols:
