I'm so happy to be able to release this pattern, due out on 6th August 2021 - after a long time in the making, this design has been one of my dreams come true as a designer, and I can't wait to share it with you!
If you want to give it a go and find out where to pick up your discount code for this pattern and also a discount to a fairy themed treat, this blog has all the detail you’ll need!
The crochet design is based on a standard square base and uses mosaic crochet throughout to create the fairy and star detailing using only 2 colours of yarn.
Here’s how the design was inspired…
I love my crochet to be about all things magical and fantasy, and I've wanted to design a blanket based on fairies for a long time - the idea of 'dancing fairies' came from the 4 side repeats used for mosaic crochet in the round, where the design on each side appears to 'turn' 90 degrees at each side. It made me think of dancing fairies, which I thought would be an unusual, and beautiful design to work in mosaic crochet, which, normally we see based on geometric shapes. Mosaic crochet is such a beautiful technique for creating stunning designs with only 2 colours – usually a main colour and a contrast colour. It was the basis behind my first CAL: "Peacock Delight" released in February of 2021 which you can find here.
The Peacock Delight CAL was the start of my love for the beauty of mosaic using a variegated yarn as the main colour – the Peacock Delight star shows off the colour changes in 9 point rounds, but the Dancing Fairies Mosaic Blanket uses the 4 sides of the square to create the 'turns' and 'twists' of the dance.
For those who've been with me a while, you’ll know how much I love all magical and fantasy themes and I wanted to create a design that felt like a small journey to a fantasy land from the main fairies to the stars in the background creating a sparkly addition to a mythical design.
But, for this design, I went one step further, and even my stitch markers were fairies! These 3 beautiful stitch markers, including a winged fairy, magical wand and moon fairy are also being released on 6th August by Bluebell yarns and to coincide with the release of the Dancing Fairies Mosaic Blanket, you can use discount code: ibelieveinfairies to purchase your very own stitch markers to work with this pattern. Head over to Bluebell yarns to pick up yours while stocks last!

The pattern is in written format, using US terminology and includes a chart for those who prefer working more visually. There won’t be any videos for this pattern - the written information is suitable for confident beginners and above and will cover all the basics, but if you get stuck, post a comment in the facebook group and there will be plenty of support for you.
Yarns:
You’ll need 2 yarns…
MC (main colour) this will be your variegated yarn, if you choose to use one, and will be the colour(s) most obvious in the background as the design is worked.
CC (contrast colour) this will be the colour used to form the design.
Both yarns will need to be DK in weight and you will need about 1,300m (1,420 yds) of your main colour and 1,180m (1,290 yds) of your contrast colour.
Here’s what I used:
Stylecraft Dream Catcher - Cheyenne (3954) - [MC, 3 balls]
Stylecraft Special DK - White (1001)- [CC, 4 balls]
There are lots of colourways in the Stylecraft Dream Catcher range which you can purchase from Woolwarehouse, alternatively you could use any variegated yarn as your MC which would work just as well. The pattern, hook and measurements are designed for DK yarn, however, any yarn would work – if you decide to use a different weight of yarn, bear in mind the quantity of yarn and also the size of the finished piece will change.
Hook:
3.5mm standard crochet hook
If you’d like to give it a go, don’t forget to tag me in your working projects and finished pieces using @crochethooksandmagic and #crochethooksanfmagic so I can see your unique colours!
Happy Crocheting to All! 😊
